Slimming World Hummus

I originally shared with you this Slimming World Hummus back in late 2017.

I wanted something that was low in syns or syn free that I could snack on during my SP days.

I had been making hummus in the soup maker for 2 years at that point and wanted to make a yummy slimming world version.

Fast forward a few years and my youngest son Jorge (who is 4) jumped for joy when I said I was going to make him a chickpea dip in the soup maker.

He is the biggest chickpea fan that I have ever known and eats more than me when I make a batch of air fryer chickpeas.

Though, after suggesting some soup maker hummus to him, he took over and did a great job of making this hummus.

Can You Make Hummus In The Soup Maker?

Yes you can. Whilst many people associate soup makers with soup, it does have other uses too.

I have used my soup maker for baby food, curry sauce, cheese sauce, and several rounds of soup maker hummus.

How Many Syns In Tahini?

There are 5 syns per tablespoon of tahini. You are probably wondering how that works out for making hummus.

Well, firstly, I know of SW members that will leave out the tahini and keep it totally syn free.

BUT I used just one teaspoon of tahini in my homemade hummus. Then imagine I made two big tubs of hummus. That makes the entire hummus recipe 1.6 Syns.

Then imagine that you have a dip dish with hummus, and it fills 8 dip dishes. That would mean each time you snack on hummus it will work out at 0.2 Syns a portion.

Making it what I call virtually syn free hummus.

How Many Syns In Hummus?

If you were to buy hummus from the supermarket, then you would be looking at 2.5 syns per tablespoon. Making them much higher in syns when you buy them from the shop vs making your own.

What Is The Difference Between Hummus & Houmous?

You will find that if you use the Slimming World app that it will display hummus as houmous.

Well hummus is the correct primary word for it and houmous is often an alternative to spelling.

A bit like doughnut vs donut.

You get to decide if you are going to call yours slimming world hummus or slimming world houmous.

The taste:

I loved it. I have to admit it tasted a little bit different to the shop-bought hummus I am used to, but definitely in a good way.
